As Chief Executive Officer, I led the redevelopment preparation of the entire former Óbuda Gasworks site over three and a half years. The assignment brought together environmental and engineering preparation, industrial heritage conservation and the foundations for the site’s future role in the city.

The 27-hectare figure is the area of the historic gasworks recorded in a municipal study. The CEO assignment covered redevelopment preparation for the entire former gasworks site.
Brownfield regeneration and industrial heritage

Site and remediation preparation
Surveying contamination across the site and commissioning and securing approval of the remediation intervention plan.
Demolition and site clearance
Preparation and management of the demolition of twenty former institutional, warehouse and production buildings, including hazardous-waste handling.
Restoration of the tower ensemble
Restoration of the water and tar tower buildings, preserving the site’s distinctive industrial heritage.

Potential for a new urban centre on the Danube
The site’s scale, waterfront location and proximity to an intermodal transport hub offer the potential for a distinct urban district or local centre. The preparation sought to establish the conditions for complementary urban uses. This reference covers that comprehensive preparation, the completed demolition works and the restoration of the tower ensemble. The creation of a new district remains a future development opportunity.
